Because of the misconceptions about what blind dogs can do and achieve, we plan to bring blind dogs to schools, civic clubs, senior centers, outdoor fairs and other venues. In this way, people can see the potential of blind dogs as wonderful companions. If we can change attitudes about blind and disabled dogs and help people understand that these dogs are as happy, playful and loving as sighted dogs, there may be less reluctance to adopt them. I know that when people met Tootsie, they were moved by her spirited personality, courage and endless optimism. Attitudes can change with the right information and we hope to share our love of blind dogs with others.
Our dog Woody is our first goodwill ambassador and is available to meet with community groups, school children and people with disabilities.
